This past Friday and Saturday, Green Cathedral headed to Philly Jam Recording again to continue work on the new album with engineer Mark Montoro. The goal was to record drum tracks on four songs – “Impossible Metropolis”, “Firefly”, “Cities in Dust” (a Siouxsie and the Banshees cover), and “Boiling Black Water”. We had previously recorded drums to “Boiling Black Water” but Tom was unhappy with the drum sound and wanted to redo them. We knew a major winter storm was headed to our region late Saturday night / early Sunday, so we had to get things done by then. Luckily, the process went really smoothly. Everyone was relaxed and we did two songs Friday night and two songs Saturday afternoon. Later this week, Mark will head back to lay down bass parts.
I took some video and some photos to document the process. Even though Tom is the only one being officially recorded, the rest of the band is there to lay down “scratch” tracks to work out a song template for us all to work with moving forward.
